Technical history
A short archive of projects, systems and technical episodes that shaped later work.
Superconducting magnetic separation
One early turnaround project involved a superconducting magnet business using 5T magnets to remove semi-magnetic impurities from kaolin slurry.
The process increased product value from roughly $20 per ton to over $100 per ton by removing impurities that limited the material’s usefulness.
The work formed part of Jeremy Goodes’ Cryogenic Consultants business and contributed to the formation of Carpco SMS. Carpco provided the commercial backbone.
The system did not change the material. It removed what prevented the material from being valuable.
FIX and trading systems
The old AltKB site included a FIX ↔ FIXML converter prototype and related financial messaging experiments. This thread later connects naturally to Correlace and Rapid Addition.
Diabetes information manager
The diabetes app is an early example of personal time-series data, modelling, decision support and practical control under uncertainty.
